“Adoption feels like a genetic connection because it links you directly not only to your own gene pool but the genes of all humanity, all the way to the roots from which we all originated . . . [A]doption carries the added dimension of connection not only to your own tribe but beyond, widening the scope of what constitutes love, ties, and family. It is a larger embrace.” –Isabella Rossellini, Adoptive Parent
On a sunny and comfortable day in early May family and friends convened at the Providence Family Courthouse to make Edgar’s place in our family official in the eyes of the law. And though our beautiful blue-eyed boy slept through our celebratory breakfast, he was awake and ready for action for the main event.
The proceeding itself may be short, but it is oh-so-sweet and leaves behind audible exhales and a tremendous sense of relief.
Happy Adoption Day, Edgar! You are ours and we are yours–forever!
