Museum Hopping

Though Don had to work on Columbus Day itself, the four of us were able to sneak away on Saturday and Sunday for a tour of three museums that are all within just a couple hours of home.  The first was the Children’s Museum in West Hartford, Connecticut.  The focus is science, and Oscar and Edgar couldn’t have been more pleased.  They got to touch a ball python, explore concepts in electricity, and walk into a giant kaleidoscope inside and an enormous whale outside.  After dinner and a good night’s sleep at a hotel in Springfield, we drove to the Springfield Museums and paid homage to Dr. Seuss at the National Memorial.  The impressive statues representing many of Seuss’ most beloved characters inspired the boys’ imaginations as much as any interactive exhibit inside.  We then drove on to Amherst to see the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and were treated to Mother Nature’s own art in the form of foliage along the way.  Dinner at an Indian restaurant before heading home was a delicious ending to a perfect fall weekend!
