This post is dedicated to all the parents, spouses, partners, caregivers, caretakers, coworkers, friends, family members, hosts, and hostesses who work so very hard, daily, and seemingly tirelessly behind the scenes to make everything just right for the people they love without any thought of overt accolades or extrinsic reward.
Have you ever had one of those days when everyone and everything else’s needs seem to come before your own?
Today was initially one of those days.
With a morning that started about 90 minutes before I was hoping, by 10:30 AM two loads of laundry had been done, breakfast had been served, the kitchen mopped, the dishes put away, the grocery shopping done, the downstairs vacuumed, the oil company called, the pool readied, the yard tidied, the dog’s area cleaned, and the yard toys rinsed.
After I caught my breath and, finally, a splendid nap this afternoon, I was reminded that it takes a lot of work to create even a semblance of paradise but also, and perhaps more importantly, that paradise is not in the final product, but in the process. Having a home and a family and friends and animals to care for is a privilege and people who depend upon you an enormous responsibility; and at the end of the day if my actions have in any small way helped to make their day better, then it truly was another day in paradise.
